Benjamin is doing this for Donn Perez
This site is great for organizing concrete steps, but we need a separate forum for envisioning and discussing what can be done. The simplest solution is probably a group Tumblr.

Just don't make it so Wikipedia editors think it's "Propaganda" ! ! ! It's "Wikipedia" people, not "Model D Media", so just keep "Objectivity" "in mind".

'After' pictures can go up once we actually accomplish something. For now, this entry could really use citations and some basic organization.

Donn Perez did this for Donn Perez
This is a mixed-income area that's begging for more foot traffic. Grosse Pointe's only rental district and some of its coolest bars and restaurants are here, alongside some struggling east-side Detroit neighborhoods.
If there's one thing to unite GPers, Harper Woods and Detroiters, it's scoring bargains on fresh produce.Itwilltake More than an hour andneedstobedoneby June 19, 2010 .Itwon'tcostmorethan nada .Youwouldbeperfecttotakeonthismicroactionifyou A vision ,caneasilygetyourhandson anything ,andyouarelocated Mack and Alter area .Comments2

Donn Perez did this for Donn Perez
This one's easy: Just *plant something*, anything you fancy, in whichever tiny spot you choose. You don't need anyone's approval, and the worst consequence is some asshat tears it from the soil.

Oh, and I deleted my micro-action about a master plan. Strikes me as unilateral and fairly annoying to present people with a ready-made vision for the place where they live.
Anyone know how to organize mass meetings for community input?Posted 3 months ago -

Which, by the way, does anyone know a good community organizer? I'm certainly not one. Time to make a micro-action.

Just to be clear, though: the CRUCIAL thing is getting the *residents* on both sides of Alter together. In that regard, one honest-to-god community organizer is worth more to me than a hundred landscapers from Pepsi Refresh.

Even better: some other Detroiter who DOES know the local businesses could ask.

Thanks, Cindy. A few definitely come to mind. Don't know the others personally, so I guess the only thing to do is ask :)

Donn - take a look at this post on how brands and businesses are contributing to improve local communities and urban environments. Who do you think might be interested in getting involved in this from the Detroit business landscape? http://bbhhive.com/2010/06/brands-as-thoughtful-city-dwellers/

If you're reading this and you're interested, you probably have ideas of your own on how we can pull this off. Don't be shy! Add a micro-action. Even if you can't execute it yourself, someone else WILL step up for a worthy idea.
